Under the leadership of advisor Mrs. Francis and club presidents Reema Kumar and Grace Lopez, the Floral Park Memorial High School’s Model United Nations Club was awarded Outstanding Small Delegation at the 2015 William and Mary conference.

This was the first time that Floral Park Memorial competed at the conference in Williamsburg, Virginia. In 1693, William and Mary was the second college founded in the British North American colonies (after Harvard).

Seniors Thomas Kenna and Nicole Choisez won Outstanding Delegate Award while representing Slovakia in the European Union. Grace Lopez also won the Outstanding Delegate Award while representing Daniel Carroll of Maryland at the Constitutional Convention. Carroll was one of only five men who signed the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution.

Once again, Mrs. Francis, Model United Nations club advisor at Floral Park Memorial, was delighted with the hard work and intellect of her students. In addition to Kenna, Choisez, Kumar, and Lopez, the team consisted of Lauren Jounakos, Emma Azizo, Tara Maggiulli, Sophia Ramcharitar, Riley Anderson, Raquel Agudelo, Lauren Joseph, Katrina Gliszcynski, Jamie Liesner Olivia Lanning and Danielle Ashbahian.

“I am just so proud of how well all of the students performed this weekend,” said Mrs. Francis. “It is a great example for the younger members of the club to try to emulate.”

Mrs. Francis took over leadership of this prestigious club in 1999 after the retirement of Model UN founder Mrs. Marion Brzozowski. This past Tuesday, Mrs. Brzozowski passed away at the age of 83.
