Hooping For A Cause

If all-star selections during the offseason are any indication, it should be another strong season for Floral Park Memorial’s boys’ varsity basketball team.

After a series of fall tryouts, senior point guard Frankie Phelan was selected as one of 12 players to compete for Nassau County in the annual Alzheimer’s All-Star Basketball Classic. This game was founded in 2010 and is an opportunity to raise money for the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. Phelan and the Nassau Squad will play against the all-stars from Suffolk County on Sunday, October 29 at Oyster Bay High School. The 5:00 pm game will be preceded by a girls’ contest. Phelan is the first player from Floral Park to ever be selected for this prestigious team.

Over the summer, senior Brian Fox received his second consecutive invitation to compete with the best players from Nassau County in the Basketball Coaches Association of New York’s summer tournament. Congratulations to both Phelan and Fox for these outstanding achievements. It is nice to see coaches from across the area recognize their talents, hard work and determination for the sport.
