These past six years have been a whirlwind of growth, challenges, and unforgettable memories that have shaped me into the person I am today.
One of the most profound aspects of my high school experience has been the relationships I’ve formed. From classmates who became lifelong friends to teachers who inspired and guided me, the connections I’ve made have been invaluable. They’ve provided support during tough times and celebrated with me during great times. I’ve learned the importance of surrounding myself with positive influences and building a network of people who believe in me. My favorite teachers that have had the biggest impact on me are Dr. St. John, who taught me the importance of hard work and discipline within the workforce, and Mr. Demmers, who brings a charismatic personality and vibe to class that it’s a joy to be around. My favorite class included English 7-12, History 9-12, and Math.
Dear 7th grade self, As I write to you from the future, I want to give you some wisdom and encouragement that I wish I had known when I was in your shoes. Middle school can be a whirlwind of emotions and experiences, but I want you to know that you’re capable of navigating through it all with hard work and resilience. First and foremost, remember to be kind to yourself. You’re going through a period of immense growth and change, both physically and emotionally. It’s okay to feel uncertain or overwhelmed at times. Allow yourself to embrace those feelings and know that they are a natural part of growing up. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Whether it’s joining a new club, trying out for a sports team, or speaking up in class, take those chances to explore your interests and discover what brings you joy. Some of the most rewarding experiences await you outside of your comfort zone, so embrace new opportunities with an open mind and a fearless spirit.
As I prepare to embark on the next chapter of my life, I carry with me the lessons and experiences of high school. I am grateful for the memories I’ve made, the friendships I’ve formed, and the person I’ve become. While I may be saying goodbye to this chapter, I know that the lessons I’ve learned and the connections I’ve forged will stay with me wherever life takes me. High school has been an unforgettable journey, and I am excited to see where the road ahead leads.

Dear incoming seventh grader,
Hi! You’re probably both nervous and excited about your first year at Floral Park Memorial. This school has so much to offer and you should take advantage of all the opportunities you will be given. We have so many clubs and sports programs, honor societies, volunteering opportunities, and a variety of advanced and AP classes. The best advice I can give you is to try everything you want to, even if you have no experience. Try out for a team, join a club, challenge yourself academically, and extend yourself socially. Don’t be afraid to ask for help or have a different opinion than others. Stay true to yourself and always be confident and kind.
P.S. Walk fast in the hallways.

High school took a different turn for me. I became a junior at FPM at the beginning of February last year as a Bangladeshi immigrant. At first, I was really insecure as to how I would adapt to this new environment. Different cultures, languages, lifestyles, religions, everything plays a big role for an immigrant from South Asia and Asia as our families are not open to American culture. However, my parents were very understanding of our big change and made it easy for us to adapt by bending certain rules of our family. Now about my short time at FPM, I was surprised at the wonderful treatment I received from each teacher including my counselor. I also met amazing friends at school including Malkan Nizami, Amy O’connor, Emer Price, Nehal Luthra and many more. My favorite teachers were Ms. Sandler, Ms. Minkovsky, Ms. Faggioni, Ms. White, Mr. Pugliese and Mr. Vanenburg. I loved the memories i made with Malkan laughing loudly in the hallways in our breaktimes, jumping in the cafeteria, the times i spent with Student Council members and Ms. Faggioni for the Island harvest Food drive and the two days I took 6th graders for a tour around the school. What I’ll miss the most is the carefree (not so carefree) times I’ve spent with my friends at class and in the hallways. For the upcoming 7th graders, my advice would be to stay close to your friends because they’ll be the only ones to pull you out of any sort of trouble and give you the motivation you need during your senior year, and also be close friends with your teachers. Despite the short time I spent in FPM, the memories I’m taking with me will forever be at the core of my heart.

Dear 7th grade self,
If you could see me now you’d be shocked. I’ve grown so much into the person I am today. I’ve improved so much in my academics. I’ve been improving my mental health because I know I had some issues to work out when I first came into this school. I’m finally graduating high school with a regents diploma. It took me a while but I finally passed. I’m officially 18 and I got accepted to all the schools I applied to. I’m thinking about pursuing beauty school like I always wanted to do. I’m also currently taking drivers ed and working toward getting my license soon.
Sincerely,
your future self
Ps Thanks for helping me to become the person I am today.
