This season, the Florettes took on lyrical dance for the first time. As a team, we dedicated our first competitive lyrical routine to our beloved Mary Jane Morra. Mary Jane was more than an alumni; she was also a teacher, friend, and coach. A passionate supporter of the arts, she recognized the Florettes as true athletes and deeply understood the dedication and commitment these young performers put into their craft.
Dedicating this dance in her memory was our way of expressing gratitude to her and others like her who champion the arts and support female athletes. She was a true inspiration, and we were honored to pay tribute to her.
To raise awareness for pancreatic cancer, we selected purple costumes, and our performance was set to I’ll Be Okay by Rachel Gray. The team placed second in all three competitions and had the privilege of performing the routine for the entire faculty during a staff meeting. Hearing how deeply our dedication to Mary Jane resonated with the staff was incredibly moving, just as it is for us each time we take the floor.
We love and miss Mary Jane and hope she is proud of the way we have honored her legacy.
