Chery Delivers

Preparing to play the Floral Park boys’ soccer team must be a nightmare for opposing teams. With so many talented players, you never know who is going to emerge from one game to another.
The first round of the Nassau County Class A playoffs was yet another example of the tremendous depth for the Knights.
Trailing 1-0 against 7th-seeded Hewlett, junior Deschanel Chery scored two second half goals, keeping Floral Park’s season alive with a 2-1 victory.
“We took a quick throw in and I was standing in scoring position,” said Chery. “I saw that the goalie was off his line.”
The outstanding, season-long Floral Park defensive effort continued to dominate in front of goalie Thomas Freely. The junior kept the Bulldogs out of the net to secure the victory.
At halftime I was pretty confident that we would be able to win because we had outplayed them,” said Freely. “In the second half, we knew we had to be more aggressive and force more scoring chances.”
The Knights advance to the quarterfinals where they will take on 2nd-seeded South Side. The Cyclones are the 9th ranked Class A team in New York State. The game is Tuesday, October 23, 6:00 pm at Darcy Field in Rockville Center.

To my son Deschanel
I remember when you decided to ran for class Presidents in 6th grade at CHC. I knew you will become a great leader someday and you will continue to strive for your dream especially when you started to play for Soccer PALs at the between 3 and 4 yrs old, later in you joined the youth HAYO organization at Saint Boniface church and attend the church Choir.
You are amazing! I am so proud of all your accomplishments. Thank you for being a great role model for your 4 brothers . What ever you believe in just follow your dream . Continue to work hard and don’t ever give up in your goals.
