At Floral Park Memorial, when the calendar turns to February, it is time to focus on playoff basketball. Once gain, both the boys’ and girls’ teams hope to extend their seasons beyond the February break.

This year, the girls enter the playoffs as one of the favorites. After an exceptional 18-1 season, the Lady Knights earned the two seed and will host a first-round playoff game on Friday at 4:30 pm against the winner of an outbracket game between Roosevelt and Locust Valley. The girls are riding a 13-game winning streak. If they win their first two games, the Lady Knights could potentially face North Shore, the only team to defeat Floral Park this year. The two teams split their games during the regular season.

After playing in the most competitive conference in Nassau County this year, the boys earned a playoff berth with their 7-7 record. They were awarded the 19th seed and will play an outbracket game against two-time Nassau County defending champion Valley Stream South on Thursday, February 11 at 5:30 pm. The game will be at Valley Stream South High School. The two teams met last year in the county finals. This year, the teams split their two games with each team winning on its home floor.
