Video: FPM Eagerly Prepares for Friday’s Spirit Day & Pep Rally

Students from each grade have been working feverishly to finish their decorations for the Hallway Decorating Contest this Friday, Spirit Day. The overall theme of the hallways is “World Cities”, which was voted on by each class board last December. The Seniors’ city is New York. The Juniors are decorating their hallway to look like London. The Sophomores’ city is Rio de Janeiro, and the Freshmen are San Francisco. The eighth graders and seventh graders worked together on their Paris-themed hallway.

Students began working on their hallway decorations before the end of the last school year. They continued working on them over the summer and are finishing up this week. Therefore, these hallway decorations for  Friday have been a culmination of months of work. Scores of students from each grade have been staying after school to help their respective class boards finish this daunting challenge. Under the supervision of their dedicated class advisers, the students have been producing fantastic murals that showcase the allure of far-away, (and some not so far away) cities around the world. These hallways will add to the exciting atmosphere in school on Friday.

The closer it gets, the seemingly more chaotic the school becomes each afternoon. Amid a flurry of paint and hot glue, students try to make last minute additions in hopes of winning this year’s Hallway Decorating Contest. Teachers will vote on Friday morning for the best-decorated hallway; the ballots will be counted by members of student council. The winner will be announced at the Pep Rally.

With only days to go, students and teachers alike, as Ms. Canone put it, “subsist on coffee and positive thinking” to get through the day, and the enormous amount of work that goes with it. The Director of Student Activities, Mrs. Mason has affectionately called Spirit Day “organized chaos”. Albeit this, Spirit Day and Homecoming will be a lot of fun for everyone involved!
