Typically, the sight of a teacher being taped to the wall would bring alarm and concern on the part of administrators. But on Friday, November 6, Dr. Sottile and Mr. Kenny thoroughly enjoyed watching Ms. Francis, a social studies teacher at Floral Park Memorial High School, volunteer to let herself be taped to a wall to raise money for the Model United Nations Club.

When the final bell rang students came pouring into the main hallway with their $2 ready to get their opportunity to have some fun at Ms. Francis’ expense. As soon as they started paying, there was no turning back for Ms. Francis. Students could not get enough of the action. They were videotaping the entire event, while Ms. Francis was just getting more and more scotch tape piled onto her. It was quite fun to watch.

One student even said, “taping teachers to a wall is fun.” After about 20 minutes of Ms. Francis being trampled by students, she was able to breathe and look back on the decision she made, hopeful that it financially beneficial.

And it was as the Model United Nations Club was able to raise over $120.00. When Ms. Francis was back on the ground she humorously said, “It only took two rolls.” That was not an exaggeration.

The dedication Ms. Francis has to the students of this very successful club is amazing. It is quite evident how much the students in the club and her class enjoy passion and commitment to the school. They were all enthusiastic during the entire event and never doubted that she would be willing to go through with the fundraiser.

“I was scared for her but I had high hopes for our fundraiser,” said Thomas Kenna, president of the Model United Nations Club. “We are making money and building memories.”

The entire MUN club really hit a home run with this fundraiser, and hopefully they will make it an annual event. The school would really enjoy that.
