Clay Matthews, Packers Break the Sound ”BEAR”ier vs. Chicago in Win
October 5, 2017
Well, this game was over the second the Bears offense took the field.
NFL announcer Tony Romo, who might prove to be a better commentator than he was a quarterback, and Jim Nance, were on the call for the legendary rivalry between the Chicago Bears and the Great Bay Packers. Heading into this Thursday night affair, the lifetime series was tied at 94-94 with six games ending in a tie. Both the Bears and Packers were looking to build on their impressive victories from the previous week. Unfortunately for Chicago, one of the all-time greatest quarterbacks, Aaron Rodgers, was at his best and he tossed four touchdowns in a 35-14 romp at Lambeau Field.
Like a block of cheese grated by a chef, Bears QB Mike Glennon was, in a sense, that dairy product shredded by an unstoppable Great Bay defensive unit. Fumbling twice in the first quarter and throwing two interceptions, Glennon looked as if he was trying to get benched for rookie Mitchell Trubisky, the Bears first-round selection this year out of the University of North Carolina. Putting pressure on the former Buccaneer was veteran Clay Matthews who recorded his 75th career sack in this contest. Chicago’s running game was also shut down as Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen (bet you regret wasting your FAAB budget on him) combined for only 77 total yards and one score during garbage time.
Rodgers, aka “Cheezus” by some Packer fans, came out of the gates on fire, and stayed hot for the rest of this game. He ended the night 18 for 26 with 179 yards and four touchdowns. All three of the Packers’ main wide receivers had touchdowns, including two from Jordy Nelson. Although Green Bay played a phenomenal game, the team lost both of its running backs to injuries. Ty Montgomery, who looked as good as ever when the game started, suffered broken ribs on the first drive of the game. This injury could be lengthy which is more bad news for Cheeseheads as backup Jamaal Williams also got injured. Third-string back Aaron Jones took over the job for the rest of the night, gaining 49 yards on 13 carries while also scoring his first career touchdown. Chicago’s defense was one of the only positives for the Bears as the defensive line did put some pressure on Rodgers to throw the ball away quick. That certainly wasn’t enough to stop the two-time MVP from closing out this game early.
The Packers (3-1) will head to Dallas next week to take on the Cowboys (2-2), while the Bears (1-3) travel back home to Chicago to face the Minnesota Vikings (2-2).
