Did Someone Say Winning Streak?

Jets beat Jaguars in OT thriller as Gang Green rolls to a surprising 2-2 record

Shane Palma, Sports Writer

If you counted the number of people wearing Jets gear at the beginning of the season in New York, your total number would probably be low. What you would have seen instead was Giant fans parading the streets, showing off their new Brandon Marshall and Odell Beckham Jr jerseys.

Fast forward to the present and take another tally. Where did all the Giants fans go? Why are people now wearing green and talking about this player named Jamal Adams?

The answers to your questions lie in the dust and debris of Week 4 in the NFL, after which the Jets stand proud at 2-2 while the Giants have dropped to a pitiful 0-4 start. After slugging it out with the Jacksonville Jaguars at “JET”Life stadium, New York proved that seeing its team name on the schedule is not an automatic win.

HE’S BACK!: Jets running back Bilal Powell has awoken from his three-week slumber and awarded fantasy players with a career game in total yardage. Running faster than Mr. Simone can name all 45 presidents (which is quite impressive), Powell jetted to the end zone on an incredible 75-yard rush. He, combined with rookie Elijah McGuire, would go on to contribute 256 yards on the ground against a potent Jacksonville defensive line. Quarterback Josh McCown, on the other hand, looked average by throwing one interception and fumbling three times. That, and the poor play from his receivers, was to be expected as Jacksonville came into the week with the top-ranked defense against the pass. Even with strong showings by AJ Bouye and Jalen Ramsey, the true underdogs prevailed.

PATRIOTS TRASH TO JETS TREASURE: After being cut by New England during the preseason, Kony Ealy was claimed by the Jets as depth for their (at the time) stacked defensive line. After ProBowl linebacker Sheldon Richardson was traded to the Seahawks, Ealy was thrust into the starting job with hopes that he could produce numbers like those of the former MetLife Monster. That has certainly worked out so far. The former Carolina Panther has torn apart offensive lines throughout the first four weeks, similar to what he did versus the Broncos in Super Bowl 50. Ealy, a product out of Missouri, has one of the highest grades on PFF (Pro Football Focus) which ranks him as one of the top players this season at his position. Along with strong showings from Demario Davis and David Bass, Gang Green was able to shut down Blake Bortles and his group of mid-tier receivers.

The Jaguars go into the next week facing Le’Veon Bell and the Pittsburgh Steelers, who look to continue their dominate ways. As for the Jets, they get the 0-4 Browns in Cleveland. Even after a successful draft by the organization, Hue Jackson’s young team continues to struggle this season. Can Todd Bowles’ improved squad get above .500 this week and extend an already impressive winning streak?
