The playoffs are finally here for the Floral Park boys’ varsity soccer team. But don’t let the ten seed fool you. The ultra competitive Nassau County Class A bracket is filled with schools that all believe they can win a title, including three teams (Garden City, Lawrence and South Side) ranked in the top 16 in New York State. Having already defeated Lawrence, the Knights are confident that they can defeat any of the teams. First up is an early game on Friday against 7th-seeded Hewlett.

“Everyone is focused, ready for tomorrow,” said junior Deschanel Chery, who scored three goals this year.

Senior Tim Cleere led the team this year with nine goals. Coach Pokojny, however, has a very well-balanced and deep roster. Led by Bobby Bressmer, Justin Vij and Mike Filoso, the defense was very impressive all season. Junior goalie Thomas Freely had five shutouts on the year.

When a traditional power like Jericho is seeded 11th, and relegated to an out-bracket contest, you know this is going to be an intense playoff season. Hopefully, it will be one that includes Floral Park until the end. For the seniors (Matthew O’Donnell, Alejandro Arrindell, Cleere, Joseph Spinner, Shomari Samuel, Alexander Lauletta, Bressmer, Michael Filoso, Vij, Denis Sullivan, Robert Hill) it would be a fitting conclusion to a great high school career.
