If you are not happy with how the seeding committees treated the Floral Park boys’ and girls’ basketball teams, there is one place to direct your anger.

North Shore.

Both teams lost to the Vikings during the regular season, leading to seeds that are likely not indicative of how good each Floral Park team is. For the Lady Knights, their one-point loss on the last game of the season to North Shore dropped them from a possible three seed all the way to eighth. They will still open the playoffs at home but have to face the 9th-seeded Locust Valley Falcons on Friday, February 15 at Floral Park Memorial. The game will begin at 5 pm. After an improbable 17-2 regular season, Floral Park definitely expected, and deserved, a higher seed.

As for the boys, winners of six games to end the season, a mid-season loss to North Shore left them one game out of first place. So even though the Knights decisively defeated both Lynbrook and Valley Stream South, and are playing as well as any team in the Class A field, they could not be awarded a seed higher than either team. Floral Park was given the 7th-seed and will play host to 10th-seeded Jericho on Saturday, February 16 at 3 pm.

The boys have been led by seniors Jayson Delgado, Mike Matich and Matthew O’Donnell. Delgado finished the regular season as the leading scorer for all public school players in Nassau County this year with 24.7 ppg. Scoring for the girls has been more balanced this year with juniors Jaeda Delsoin and Amanda Kozak, senior Kelly Ventura and freshman Erin Harkins paving the way.
