The friendly rivalry between Floral Park and North Shore began several years ago on the basketball court. As all four varsity teams were very successful on the court, the coaches decided to schedule boys-girls doubleheaders to give the crowds an opportunity to watch two exciting, and highly competitive, games. The tradition has since evolved into a fundraising event, part of the Coaches vs. Cancer program, a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and basketball coaches on every level across the country.

It was quite a warming experience to see the two communities come together for such a great cause on December 9. There were games between the varsity and junior varsity boys’ and girls’ basketball teams. Both Floral Park boys’ teams were victorious while the North Shore girls swept their contests. There were also two outstanding performances by the Floral Park cheerleader and kickline teams. This day was very emotional, especially for families dealing with loved ones who have dealt with this disease. Over $5,000 was raised by the two communities through ticket sales, donations, t-shirts and various raffles. Congratulations and thanks to all who dedicated their time.
