With over 200 graduates each year, Floral Park Memorial is proud to send so many young people off to college for their next academic challenge. But do you ever wonder where some of these individuals are today? The Shield is beginning a new segment titled, “Where Are They Now?”, a look at former FPM students. For the first installment, Editor in Chief Shane Palma sat down with a former writer for The Shield, Tom Scibelli, class of 2013. Tom currently works at an online publication, Barstool Sports. A recent graduate of Fordham University, Tom interned with several media outlets while in college, including SB Nation and WFUV Public Radio. Both opportunities provided him with valuable journalistic experiences such as serving as a beat reporter for the Yankees, Rangers, Knicks and Giants. As a blogger at Barstool, Tom produces both articles and podcasts. He has worked with various athletes and celebrities during his brief time there. Recently, Tom gained national attention due to his presence on social media. He was invited as a guest on the Laura Ingraham Show on the Fox News Channel to discuss vaping. Tom’s sarcasm could not be detected by the producers of the show, and the interview went viral. He was even satirized by Saturday Night Live, played by Pete Davidson. You can listen to my interview with Tom and hear about his decision to attend Fordham, he appreciation for the education he received at Floral Park Memorial, and his advice for future graduates.
