On January 28th starting at 4:00 p.m., a new tradition was born at Floral Park Memorial High School. This tradition allowed the sixth graders to meet the teachers and learn about the clubs that make Floral Park Memorial so diverse and inspiring. It showed them that they can be themselves and get involved in what they love. Seeing all these different activities is really what makes our school stand out. This Activities Fair not only showed the incoming seventh graders the opportunities available to help them succeed at FPM in the future, but also how they can get involved now. Many teachers such as Mr. Marchetta, Ms. Ochoa, Ms. Wiswall, Mr. Buhse came to this fair to represent the clubs that they ran. They were able to represent this pride and what our school stands for as one of the five schools in the Sewanahaka School District. Much like our school’s annual club fair, this event went a step further by inviting elementary students. It offered them an early look at the inclusive environment our school is known for and will continue to foster for years to come.
It wasn’t just about the seventh graders learning about clubs or using their talents to make the school better. It was also about helping them feel comfortable before their first day. As they started coming out of their shells, they realized they weren’t just joining a school; they were becoming part of a community. The incoming seventh graders finally felt like the future proud Knight! Once a knight, always a knight! As a a representative for the LEOs club, I was able to explain what Leo’s club does and how our club will help them unlock unlimited potential to succeed. I am so proud that we could show these seventh graders our clubs and organizations. We wanted to show them how we try to make the world better, but also that they have their own ways to help out. It proved that they are just as important to this school as we are.
As the saying goes, “tomorrow starts today.” These students are our future. They might be elementary school students, but they are all different and they all have their own unique interests and talents. They could become amazing musicians, science Olympiad winners, poet laureates, Mathletes, scholar athletes. The opportunities abound at FPM!
Go Knights!!!❤️
