This year’s performance of The Grimm Brothers’ Spectaculathon was a smashing success! Performers delivered a fast-paced comedy that attempted to cram all 209 of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales—such as Cinderella, Snow White, and Rapunzel—into one giant, chaotic story. Narrators Ben Marquez, Yuri Montas, Dewey Collazo, and Charlie Turner blended familiar tales with lesser-known ones, while lively audience participation added to the fun. The play is known for its high energy, quick storytelling, and comedic, yet sometimes darker reinterpretations of those classic tales.
Act I opened with Ben and Yuri summarizing the whirlwind of stories to come. Laughter filled the theater as characters came to life: Rapunzel, played by Charlie Turner; the devil and princess, portrayed by Suzie Park; the enchantress and dwarf, brought to life by April Blainey; Rumplestiltskin, performed by Jacob Kligman-Wiskoff; the prince, played by Ryan Persic; and the crab people, portrayed by Sophia Marquez and Hephzibah Awofeso. The list of talented performers could go on and on!
Act II began with Dewey and Charlie taking over narration duties. The saga of stories continued, mesmerizing the audience with creative retellings of Snow White, Faithful Johannes, Little Red, and Cinderella.
All three performances went off without a hitch, despite students’ busy schedules, illnesses in the crew, and set and stage limitations. The actors’ dedication and talent shone through in every moment. The stage crew, led by Mr. Tim O’Brien, went above and beyond to create a magical setting: a gleaming castle on one side of the stage and a life-sized tree on the other. They also built a rolling room that transformed seamlessly into the candy house, Rapunzel’s tower, and the grandmother’s cottage. Ms. Hayden and Mrs. Bellinger could not be prouder of such an incredible cast and crew.
One more heartfelt shout-out goes to our departing seniors, Sophia Marquez and Suzie Park. Thank you for the memories, we look forward to seeing all the wonderful things you will accomplish in the years ahead!
