Floral Park Memorial High School held our first spelling bee on January 6th, 2026. Prepping for the big day began back in November, when seventh and eighth grade students participated in in-class written spelling tests. The top scorers from each grade advanced to the schoolwide Spelling Bee. Twenty-four seventh graders competed, with Marcus Pena emerging as the seventh grade champion. Eighteen eighth graders also competed, with Audrina Park winning the eighth grade title. The two grade-level champions then faced each other in the final “spelldown” round.
Marcus Pena won the championship by correctly spelling the word “centuries” and will advance to the regional Scripps Spelling Bee in February.
